Is Anyone Even Listening? - 2016

Ideas of identity, belonging, family and personality have always been an integral concept to my art practice. Memories and experiences appear to play an important part of who we are or who we become.

The concept of “nature versus nurture” is of particular interest and the questions we often ask are; Are we a product of our upbringing or does our genetic DNA dictate our outcome? How important are our experiences, memories, role models, upbringing, education, friends and intelligence in regard to a person’s nature and life?  What influences determine the choices we make?

In a whimsical portrayal I have composed an array of narrative compositions, morphing animal heads with human bodies in everyday life situations. By carefully matching either the mood, temperament or physical characteristics of each image I attempt to trace or describe a small part of their identity.

I have commenced this exploration with the most domesticated of animals; man’s best friend, the canine and their natural enemy the feline.
